Issue 330 – Warm welcome for new health centre by the hospital friends

The building of Frome’s new health centre, adjacent to the community hospital, is to commence in the coming weeks and the news has been warmly welcomed by the Friends of Frome Hospital.

Peter Smith, chairman of the ‘Friends’ says, “This is a most exciting and positive move for an integrated 21st century medical service for the town, and is fully endorsed by the Friends.
“It is achieving the integrated Health Park which was originally envisaged 10 years ago but was subsequently abandoned by the NHS for funding reasons. I am sure that the people of Frome will see many benefits from the medical practices and community hospital working together on the same site. These benefits have already been illustrated by the success of the recently introduced urgent care walk-in service organised by the Frome Medical Practice at the minor injuries unit at the hospital, which has received excellent feedback from patients.
“Over many years our main priorities have been fundraising for equipment for the hospital and support for patients and staff, but as a result of the Health Park development we are conscious of a need to broaden our terms of reference.
With the new health centre and the reorganisation of the NHS, we are embarking on a great period of change in the provision of health care in Frome and The Friends of the Hospital are keen to play our part in this.”
