Issue 342 – Transfer of land for new school to be discussed

FROME Town Council officers will meet with representatives from Frome’s new free school to discuss whether land under town council ownership could be transferred to the school.

Frome’s new Steiner School is due to open on the former Frome Victoria Hospital site on Park Road in September 2012. A representative from Frome Town Council will discuss transferring the land from the Victoria Park office block, greenhouses and land to the rear, to the new Frome Steiner School.
At a full meeting of Frome Town Councillors, they agreed for council officers to investigate how this land could benefit the school.
At the meeting, which took place on Wednesday 7th of December, cllr Claire Hudson pointed out that the hospital site will not become available until September 2013, but she has no objections to the council opening an investigative conversation with the school.
Cllr James Godman asked the council to consider other options before entering investigatory talks with Steiner School, “It’s a piece of land that could be given to the community,” he said. “Perhaps there are those who want to use it for allotment space and a stall where local people can sell their produce. Can we ask residents what they want?”
However, councillors agreed to go ahead with exploratory talks about the use of the land with the new Frome Steiner School.
