Frome Festival Short Story Competition

THIS year was the tenth anniversary of the Frome Festival Short Story Competition and the first year that authors have been able to enter on line via the new website -www.fromeshortstory 

The winning stories were announced by the competition organiser,  Alison Clink.  Celebrity judge, novelist and short story writer, Michele Roberts chose the winners from a shortlist of 20 stories and presented the prizes in the Rook Lane Chapel in Frome on 7th July as part of the Authors and Publishers Day in this year’s Frome Festival.

Rosalind Cooper of Bath read her story, ‘Dwindling’, aloud at the prize giving and the second prize winning story, ‘The Two Brothers’ was read by Frances Liardet.

The results were as follows:

First Prize (£300) – ‘You Slip So Easy’ by Ilana Winterstein from Chiswick.

Second prize (£150) – ‘The Two Brothers’ by Anna Lewis of Leicester.

Third Prize (£75)– ‘Where Hummingbirds Fly’ by Liz Gwinnell from Trowbridge.

Three stories were highly commended – ‘Dwindling’ by Rosalind Cooper of Bath; ‘The Angels of the Gora Qabristan’ by Jo Tiddy of Oxford; ‘Crossing the Wyre’ by Kathy Pitt of Lancashire.

Local winners:

1st prize – ‘Where Hummingbirds Fly’ by Liz Gwinnell of Trowbridge.

2nd Prize – ‘Dwindling’ by Rosalind Cooper of Bath.

3rd Prize – ‘The Mask Seller’ by Cath Weeks of Bath.

4th Prize – ‘Soapstone, Serpentine’ by William Kelly of Radstock.
