Volunteers needed for Frome Health Walks

The Mendip Health Walks scheme is looking for more volunteers to come forward and train as health walk leaders after a surge of people have taken up walking.

The short 1½ mile walks, which meet at The Cheese & Grain in Frome on Monday mornings and outside Frome Medical Practice on Wednesday mornings, have seen an increase in the number of people wanting to walk more to improve their health.

Mendip Health Walks is supported by Tone, the charitable leisure trust and social enterprise that helps communities to get more active to benefit their health.  Melissa McCarthy, scheme co-ordinator said, “We have a great team of volunteers and we need more people to help lead our short walks as they are becoming more and more popular.

“We have a training day coming up at the beginning of July and we’re looking for people who enjoy walking and helping others at the same time.  You don’t need to be extremely fit – you might have only just started being more active yourself.  If you can help, please call 01823 273084.”

The Mendip Health Walks programme is part of the national Walking for Health initiative which is hosted by Ramblers in partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support, and aims to get more people walking in their own community for health and wellbeing.

Printed programmes can be found at the Frome Information Centre, online at
