Frome Rotary Young Musician Of The Year

The Rotary Club of Frome held the Young Musician of the Year competition at Oakfield Academy, by kind permission of the headteacher, Emma Wilkes, on Saturday 15th November.

Gill Barnes, on behalf of Rotary said, “The club was delighted  that there were 16 young people aged between seven and 16 years of age from Frome and district who gave us a wonderful evening of entertainment.

“13 were eligible to compete in the competition and three were under age, as the rules stipulate that they have to be 11 years to 17 years old by 31st August 2014.  The adjudicators were Lyndy and Kerry Bishop from Warminster who have 35 years of experience in music in the Somerset and Wiltshire area, and who gave very comprehensive and constructive advice to all the competitors.

“The competition started at 6.00pm and finished at 8.45pm with the vice president Patrick Cusworth presenting two trophies suitably inscribed to the winner Lucy Little who played the Cello beautifully, and the adjudicators were extremely impressed with Eliza Talman who played the trumpet and was awarded the runner-up trophy. All the competitors who performed received a certificate  and chocolates.

“The Rotary Club was encouraged by a full audience to support the competitors, and the parents must have been very proud of their children’s ability to perform in front of such a large audience. Lucy will now move forward to the Rotary District Competition to be held on Sunday 1st March, and the Rotary Club of Frome wish her the very best of luck.”
