Get dirty at the Dippy!

VOLUNTEERS are being asked to attend The Dippy to help tidy the area.

Frome Town Council now has control of the Dippy, and The Mount Community Association Dippy and Greenspaces Group is getting people together to start improvement works there.

A management plan has now been drafted and work started on the 11th January when volunteers were invited to start work that includes the removal of old tree guards dating from 2000 and scraping soil and grass back to expose the original width of the paths.

The next tidy-up is on Sunday 25th January between 10am-12noon. Volunteers need to turn up at 10 am prompt at the bridge in the Dippy.

Volunteers have also marked up trees and shrubs for coppicing and thinning out, which will be done shortly by contractors. The thinning aims to provide better light to allow some of the trees to grow better, and reduce the density of some of the trees that should have been thinned out earlier.

The Town Council is also commissioning a plan to improve the paths and access through the area for disabled, parents with buggies, etc as these groups have great difficulties accessing the area at present.

Anyone wishing to help out are asked to bring spades and shovels, wear gardening gloves, stout footwear and suitable clothing. Children 14 and over are welcome but must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times
