Frome student wins treble in football

WITHthe women’s World Cup in Canada  well under way and  women’s football in the spotlight, student Charlotte Buxton from Frome has had her own success on the pitch by achieving the ‘treble’ playing girls football.

Charlotte trains twice a week at Yeovil and Street, with matches at weekends, which is a big commitment.  This year she has played for Yeovil under 16s, was chosen to play for Somerset under 16s and again was chosen to represent the South West A.C.C. She has also played for Somerset Schools’ under 15s and Southwest schools’ under 15s, being captain for all teams.

Charlotte, who is 15 has  had a great season. She won the schools’ under 16s cup with Frome College, with Yeovil under 16s she won the league and won the League Cup and the under 16s Somerset Cup. At Yeovil FC’s presentation evening Charlotte was awarded the Manger’s Player of the Year and also the Supporters’ Player of the Year.

Charlotte’s mum Debbie Buxton said, “Charlotte  has always loved sport of any kind but especially football from the age of 5 years old.  Her brother James who is 4 years older, played football with her so she has always played football with bigger and stronger children, which has helped her to look after herself on and off the pitch!

“Her whole family always takes a keen interest in her football matches with her granddad very often coming to watch her play.

Charlotte said, “This year has been hard work with a lot of training, but I have really enjoyed my season and am looking forward to the next season.”
