Horticulture Society’s 47th Annual Show

The annual showpiece of the Frome Selwood Horticulture Society takes place at Selwood Academy, Berkley Road, Frome on Saturday, 29th August, when, for the 47th year, members will host their Annual Produce Show.

“If the past is anything to go by it is sure to be something very special, with upward of 140 entries,” said Jane Norris, one of the organisers.

“Tables will be filled with home-grown produce, from flowers, pot plants and fruit to vegetables and harvest baskets.  Floral art will feature, as will art captured by the camera, with some new classes sure to stimulate the imagination.

“Some of the home produce may be turned into edible delectables as novice and experienced members pit themselves against each other in the society home baking section.  Who needs the Great British Bake Off when you have all to grow, show, cook, eat and enjoy in Frome?!”

Doors open to the public at 1pm with presentation of prizes by Jean Hopegood, headteacher of Selwood Academy at 3pm. Ample parking is available.

“The Society has been growing since 1966, and next year sees it celebrating 50 years,” continued Jane. “Why not come along to see what make the society such a success, and better still, why not join the club that brings gardening to life, in its monthly meetings and talks now held at Critchill School, Nunney Road, Frome?

“Included in the package are coach trips to gardens and places of interest, social events and good gardening company.

Details of the show and monthly meetings can be found at or call Jane on 0777 620 8531.
