Fundraising festival for earthquake relief

LOCALvillagers will be hosting live music in Mells this weekend to raise money for earthquake relief inNepal.

‘Mellstock’ will take place on Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon, and entry will be on a donation basis – organisers suggest a £10 contribution, which will go to aid charity Help in Action.

On Saturday 26th September, folk/Celtic band Praying for the Rain will play at Mells Church, at 8pm.

Then on Sunday 27th September, music will continue in the church from noon with sets from Travellin’ Moon, Basira, Johhny G, Dr Dharma, Richard Azim, Tim the Bard, Sam Welbourne, Tibetan folk musician Yonten and Light Garden.

Organiser Angela Long said, “Everyone  is welcome to come and share in the ambience of our Mellstock festival, and, while enjoying  the lengthening sun rays to melodious sound in our beautiful village, we’ll be raising money to put roofs over the heads of the hundreds of thousands left homeless by the Nepalese earthquakes.

“Cold season approaches in Nepal and with it more hardship for the homeless, many of whom are still traumatised and in grief, having lost friends and families as well as their homes, farms, clinics, schools and ancient temples imbued with generations of faith and hope.

“We may not be able to offer a lot, but each little gift  is a step towards rebuilding Nepal and restoring faith and hope  where it is needed.”

There will also be a film showing and a presentation on the current situation in Nepal. Mells tea garden, pub and café will be open for every kind of refreshment. For more information go to
