Frome Furniture shop opens at Wessex Fields for Dorothy House Hospice Care

Dorothy House Hospice Care’s new shop, Frome Furniture, opens on Friday 29th January.

This will offer the people of Frome another shopping opportunity at Wessex Fields, a way to support local end of life services and perhaps a chance to recycle or upcycle unwanted furniture.

Frome Furniture, which sells donated items, is the first venture in a retail park for Dorothy House Hospice Care (DHHC) which already has three other furniture shops in its 700 sq mile area.  Basing its new furniture shop out-of-town at Wessex Fields provides the Charity with great opportunities in terms of space, storage and selling larger items.

DHHC, which celebrates its 40th birthday this year, already has a clothes shop and books shop in Frome and both have been a great success due to the generosity of the local community.  There is a need though for good quality furniture at a reasonable price and the Charity is always looking at different ways to raise money to provide its end of life services for patients, their families and carers.

Chief executive John Davies said, “We are delighted to be opening Frome Furniture at Wessex Fields and are excited at the opportunities that this location presents for us.  For every £1 we receive from the NHS, Dorothy House Hospice Care has to raise £4, so we are constantly looking at how we can raise money innovatively. The Frome community has and continues to be incredibly supportive of Dorothy House Hospice Care and we hope Frome Furniture will be beneficial to us all.”

Frome Furniture is based at (Unit 2,) Enterprise House, Wessex Fields (BS11 4DH) and opening times are 10.00am – 7.00pm Mon-Sat and 10.00am – 4.00pm on Sundays.  The shop will be opened officially at 10.30am on Friday 29th January by Sainsbury’s, Dorothy House Hospice Care’s local partner and new neighbour at Wessex Fields.

Whether you want to donate or buy furniture, (recycle or upcycle), do come and visit Frome Furniture and take a look at the great quality stock including not just furniture but electrical items, bric a brac, new mattresses and bed bases. The shop provides free collections of pre-loved items (subject to Health and Safety restraints) and offers competitive delivery rates.

Jenny Steele from Dorothy House said, “Maybe you’d like to come and volunteer at Frome Furniture?  We rely on our amazing volunteers for many of our services across our 700sq miles area, and it’s good fun being part of a team and a growing one in Frome.

“For all you budding furniture activists, come along to Frome Furniture, buy that piece, perhaps paint it and give it that shabby chic look.  You can even buy the paint next-door!”
